Waste Less With This Seriously Sustainable Snack

At Final we love any excuse to celebrate and if that party includes a nod to sustainability... well, color us thrilled! For that reason, we could not think of a better day to recognize this week than National Fruit Cocktail Day!

Did you know the Fruit Cocktail was originally created to prevent waste? The eco-friendly idea made use of fruit scraps left over from the canning process. Use what you have on hand to create this sweet treat or take inspiration from this recipe that we love!

Here’s what you’ll need:
4 cups of your favorite fresh fruit (We like to use mangoes, strawberries, blueberries and bananas)
1 oz can of mandarin oranges
18 oz can of crushed pineapple (or a fresh pineapple blended up)
2 tablespoons of lemon juice
3 cups of orange juice

Instructions:
1. Combine all of the ingredients in a bowl.
2. Fill mason jars with a combo of fruit and juice. Leave a bit of room at the top for expansion when it freezes.
3. Cover and seal your mason jars and freeze.
4. Enjoy this tasty summer treat!

Just remember this rule of the fruit cocktail club:
Fruit is delicious no matter how you slice it.
But it’s not a fruit cocktail unless you dice it!

Enjoy this seriously sustainable snack all summer long. It’ll be the perfect treat to enjoy with your FinalFork or FinalSpork!
