What Do Sustainability And Superheroes Have In Common?

Do you know what sustainability and superheroes have in common? They’re both lifesavers. That’s why we’re celebrating both this National Nurses Day!

The official recognition of National Nurses Day (May 6) began over 50 years ago. However, nurses have been caring for patients and refining treatment for hundreds of years. This year, nurses are finally being called the modern-day superheroes they truly are as they bring bravery, skill, and compassion to the front-line management and treatment of patients during the Covid-19 pandemic.

During the pandemic, the focus on reusable items (i.e. reusable bags, tumblers, etc.) has been forced to take a back seat. However, that doesn’t mean we need to forget about sustainability efforts completely! Nurses have shown we can accomplish so much when we work together. Here are a few tips for how you can celebrate nurses sustainably!

  1. Make your own mask. As social distancing guidelines begin to relax in the coming weeks, we will all need to continue to find ways to reduce our burden on the healthcare system. Help stop the spread of germs by wearing a mask. You can create your own using upcycled materials, such as an old shirt for this project. It’s a win-win, for you and for Mama Earth.
  2. Say thank you. Send a nurse a note of encouragement. Emails and texts are quick, free, and germ free!
  3. Gift your favorite nurse a FinalStraw! Help a nurse #SuckResponsibly with a FinalStraw. Feel free to share the discount code “WeLoveNurses” with the healthcare providers in your life for 20% off of their purchase on final.co.
